SYDNEY. March 28. — A shepherd named James Bennett has been murdered at Baldhiil's station. More rushes are taking place to Gulgong. Sir George Bowen arrived on Monday, and left for Melbourne on Wednesday. Governor liobinson has received an important telegram trom Earl Kimberly on the subject of intercolonial free tr'-.de, in reply to .one seut by the Conference. The reply is that Her Mpjesty's Government have considered the telegram and will introduce a Bill to remove the rest of the restrictions. • At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday, it was resolved that a deputation should wait upon the Premier urging the immediate necessity of opening a Californian Mail line. The dead body of a female child was picked up by the police in the street at 9 o'clock this morning. The Superannuation Act Report Bill was read the second time in the Assembly last night. Great preparations are being made for his reception, which it is considered will be the grandest demonstration ever accorded to any Victorian Governor. The Volunteers are ordered to assemble. He is expected to arrive on Saturday. A consignment of telegraph posts and wires has arrived for the South Australian Government. Wteat 5s 8d to 5s 9d. Chests, half-chests, and boxes of teas, ex Victoria, sold for 12 to 16 farthings in bond in Melbourre. 6000 bags of the Racer's cargo of Mauritius sugar sold at fair prices. Privately one line sold at JE36 to £40 10s. The Alhambra sails on Saturday for the Bluff at 3 p m. ' The contractors for the waterworks recovered £4000 against the Victorian Government for a breach of contract. Mr James, the telegraph manager, left to-day to attend a Parliamentary telegraphic enquiry at Sydney. • '
