Hokitika, March 28. The Tararua arrived at 10 a.m. She left Melbourne on the 22nd, London, March 12. — Upon the result of the division being known Mr Gladstone demanded an adjournment until Thursday. The Times, in referring to the result of the division, trusts that the Government will remain in office. The concessions promised by the Government in the Bill saiisfied th*- Liberals, but drove the Irish mem' ers into opposition. March 12, 6.30 p.m — Mr Gladstone had an interview with the Queen to-day, and a Cabinet Council was afterwards held. At the conclusion of the sitting Mr Gladstone proceeded to Buckingham Palace and tendered to her Majesty the resignation of the Ministry. March 13.— Mr Gladstone 'anno'inced to the House the acceptance by Her MHJesiy of the resignation of the Ministry, and that they now only held office until the appointment of their successors. The House then adjourned until Mond"y. The Queen summoned Mr Disraeli and entrusted him with the task of forming an administration. Mr Disraeli asked for time to be afforded him in order that he might consu't his friends. Her Majesty assented, and Mr Disraeli telegraphed to Earl Derby, Lord Cairns, and the Farl ol Carnarvon, all' of whom were on the Continent. The Conservatives hesitate to attempt to govern with a minority and the great uncertainty which prevails as to the issue of the crisis. It is said that Mr Gladstone will never again accept office. Mr Disraeli may possibly advise the Queen to ask the advice of Earl Granville. March 15.— Mr Disraeli, after conferring with Lord Derby, explained to the Queen his reasons for declining office. The Conservatives are urging Lord JL'erby to form a Cabinet. Mr Gladstone is anxious to retire from office, but the Liberals are confident of inducing him to resume It is expected that there will be a further adjournment of Parliament. March 16.— After Mr Disraeli had had an interview with the Queen, her Majesty summoned Mr Gladstone, who had however not consulted his colleagues as to the course to be pursued. He probably resumes office. March 17— In the House to-day Mr Gladstone said that the Queen, having intimated to him that the Opposition had abandoned all expectation forming a Cabinet, he. had again placed his services at her Majesty's disposal. With a view to consulting his colleagues he moved the adjournment of the House until Thursday. Mr Disraeli then rose and said that he had informed the Queen that he would have been prepared to form a Government only with a new Parliament. The House adjourned until Thursday. March 1 8.— The Australian mails via Brindisi, and the' Californian mail brought by the Nevada have been delivered. There is a recovery in the copper market, prices are quoted at -£94 to £96. The Emperor William in his opening speech expressed the hope that the speedy settlement of the financial question with France would lead to an entire evacuation of the French territory at an earlier date than, had been expected. , London, 15th March.— France and Germany have signed an agreement BtipulatiDg for the payment of the indemnity by instalments, terminating in September next, the Germans evacuating the whole French territory in July, excepting the "Verdun district, ft which is to be occupied until September. London, March 15. — The London wool sales closed last night. Prices were Bteady during the series. 13.1,086 bales were catalogued and 9000. withdrawn. The exports reached 45.006 bales. 1 French buyers were scant, and American absent altogether. Prices established were twentyr five per cent below those of February 1872. The trade h moderately Btocked, and an early recovery in value is improbable. Wales has terminated, the colliers agreeing to uccept the reduced wages for one week, afterwards to be advanced. THE LATEST. March 21. — The Queen granted an audience to Mr Gladstone yesterday, and from what has transpired it is probable that the Ministry will return to office without undergoing any modification. Mr Lowe presents the budget on the 3rd April. The estimated revenue is 76,000,000, and expenditure 71,000,000. . „ The high price of iron at "Wolverhampton has stopped business. Mr Disraeli, in the House of Commons, and the Duke of Richmond, in the House of Lords, explained their reasons for declining to take office. The ' Queen authorised a dissolution, but the Conservatives had no programme, and the moment was inopportune. The Ministry remains intact. AMERICA. .
