The Carandinia were not largely patronised although, as must: be* acknowledged by all who were present, :j the programme was one which should have drawn a large audience, while the performance of it left nothing to be desired. Madame was in fine voice, and : seemed to us to sing " Aiild Bobin Gray " : with more than her wonted sweetness, and the singing of the sisters, both in the concerted pieces and in some of their favorite songs, met with approval of the most demonstrative description, Mr Gordon's descriptive , songs were well received, and the operatic selections from " Maritana" were' allowed by all to be one of the richest musical treats we have enjoyed in Nelson for a long time. Another performance, with an excellent programme, is advertised I for this evening.-— At the Temperance Hall, Miss Aitken and those who had so kindly offered their assistance were rather more fortunate in their audience, although the room was far from full. Miss Aitken bad selected for her reading various pieces well calculated to display her powers as an elocutionist, and whether in the impressive trial scene from " Henry VIII " or in the Caudle Lecture she was equally at home. Very valuable assistance was afforded her by her friends in the musical line, as well as in recitations and readings, and the evening's entertainment was altogether successful, and well rewarded those who had brayed the elements in order to be present at it. — At the Oddfellows' Hall, Prefessor Louis gave his advertised performance, and was very successful in the rope-tying tricks. V He was bound hand and, foot several times by members of the audience and placed in a sack, from which he always contrived to emerge in a minute's time unbound. Several other . feats were performed, including an Indian war-dance in character. He performs again this evening, and among other things executes the flying trapeze in a sack. ■-..
