purpose of discussing matters having reference tb the speedy development of the coal resources of: the district, Dr Giles, in the chair. A committee baying been;appointed to watch overVand forward Jihe. public interest in this matter, the following resolution was adopted : — "Tbat a deputation be Appointed to wait on the Government and to* urge upon them the necessity of taking immediate steps to facilitate the opening of the Mount Rochfort andNgakawhaucoalfield by railway, and that the committee be requested to carry out the, object of this resolution." Mr O'Conor, as member for the district, was requested to telegraph to his Honor the Superintendent stating that it was the desire of Tthe, committee that he. should accompany the deputation to Wellington.
