Pbovincial Council. — The Council is summoned to meet on Tuesday the 29th of April. Presbyterian Church Meeting.^ — We call the attention of the members . and adherents of the Presbyterian Church to tbe meeting this evening. Pale of Stock. — Messrs W. Stavert and Co. report a sale of stock at their grounds at Richmond yesterday, when the following prices were realised : — 4OO fat merino -wethers, 12s 6d; 100 store crossbred ewes, 6s; paddock-reared ewes, 13s 6d to 175 ,• fat cows, £6 10 to £7 10s. Nelson Races. — The gates, Graiid Stand, sites for boths, &c, at the race meeting to be held on Wednesday and Thursday next were disposed of at auction to-day by Messrs Stavert & Co. at the following rates: — Gates, £49; Grand Stand, £23; Grand Stand Refreshment room, £15 IOs; Booths : No. 1, £10; No. 2, £5; No. 3, £3 10s; No. 4, £1; No. 5, £1; No 6, £2 10; No 7, £2. Total, £122 10s. Miss Aitken. — We were sorry to see so small an audience at the Masonic Hall, last night, for the evening's entertainment afforded by Miss Aitken is one really worth going to. Her reading, especially of pathetic pieces, is very superior to anything of the kind we have ever heard in Nelson, and we trust that she will receive a larger amount of patronage tomorrow evening, whea she appears here for tbe last time. Inland Communication. — The Committee met at the Government Buildings last night and drew up a programme for the public meeting which is to be called for Monday evening next, when his Honor the Superintendent will take the chair, and Mr. A. Sclanders will move the resolutions which have already been published. It is also proposed to hold meetings in the various country districts in order that public opinion may be expressed upon a matter which is fraught with the greatest interest to the province at large. The Rival Telegraph Agencies. — The Anglo-Australian Agency, by which we are supplied with telegrams, scored one against the Press Association yesterday in furnishing one clay's later, English news than appeared in the journals which depend upon the latter agency for their information, and this is tbe more noticeable since within that day there occurred tbe important event of the fall of the Gladstone Ministry. The agent in Melbourne deserves our thanks for his smartness in putting on board the Albion, which cleared the Melbourne Heads at 5 o'clock in the afternoon, a telegram dated London, 12 o'clock of the previous night. The Canterbury Press of the 13th inst. says: — An unusually large quantity of grain has been brought into Kaiapoi during last week, we should say from 25,000 to 30,000 bushels, and the stores are beginning to fill up fast. In addition, a large quantity has been carried by rail.
