March 13. -r- The Victorian Government not having received Sir George Bowen's commission by the mail, Mr Reynolds gave permission to search the New Zealand despatches, but it was not found among them. Sixty persons sat down to the dinner given by the Bar to the Chief Justice. Mr. Francis attended the dinner of the Manchester Unity as a member, and made a good Oddfellows' speech. plt is rumored that there is dissension in the Cabinet, Mr Lang ton's impracticable character causing disunion. A telegram from Sir J. M'Culloch confirms the news received from America of the refusal to grant a subsidy to, and of the withdrawal of, the Webb line. Victoria won the intercolonial' cricket match by 24 runs. Middleton, a cattle dealer at Geelong, has been committed for trial for an extensive forgery. The Lyster Company opened on the Bth inst. with great eclat. Wright has been hanged at Castlemaine for assaulting and murdering a man with a pick. Parliament is prorogued until the 15th April, and will be further prorogued. The salvage at the late fire amounts to over £20,000. JMr Tinsley, an importing ironmonger, has been fined £500 by the Customs for making false entries. SYDNEY. March 13. — The ad valorem duties are to be abolished. It is probable that immediate arrangements will be made to re-open the Californian mail service. - Orders have arrived for 11,000 tons of coal for the navy in India and China. The export of coal from Newcastle during the past weefe amounted to 72,000 tons. The New Zealand mail goes via Suez. ADELAIDE. March 13.— Wheat, 4s lOd to 4s 10£ d. Immigration is being forced on the Government. Tenders for 1000 tons of. flour for New Caledonia have been called for. The lowest, which was for £12 12s, the buyer to find barrels, was declined. Mei.boubne, March 13.— News from Sydney states that large 'orders, for coal from the Admiralty will be immediately attended to. * The prospect of the estabhshmcnt of an American naval station at Hawaia is attracting considerable attention. The market for breadstuff's has been considerably affected. The fall in wheat during the week is equal to fourpence a bushel. Flour has declined 10s a ton. Sugar is in great demand in consequence of the short stocks held in the Mauritius, and the Bmall shipments made to the colonies. Hops are selling at extremely high prices. The Victorian crop of 1873 is in the market as well as the Tasmanian, both of which are selling at high rates. Iron is rising. Sydney, March 13. — Over £1100 were taken at the late cricket match. The revenue in all its branches is increasing. Adelaide, March 13.— The butchers have raised the prices of meat owing to the great increase in the price of stock. Wheat is firm at 4b 6cL
