Dr. Carr will give another lecture and seance at Spring Grove, to-night. Anniversary Teameeting? of the Wesletan Sabbath School, Bichmond will be held to-morrow afternoon, after which there will be the usual public meeting. His Honor the Superintendent accompanied by Mr Catley, arrived in town on Saturday afternoon, having accomplished the journey from the Lyell on foot. The Appointment, as Chief Clerk in the office of the Inspector of Stores, of Captain Charles A. Humfrey, late Adjutant in the Nelson Province is notified in the Gazette of the 13th instant. Miss Aitken. — This lady, whose powers as an elocutionist have made her Dame so well known throughout the Australian Colonies, will give one of her pleasing entertainments at the Masonic Hall this evening. The programme is ah excellent one, and comprises several of the pieces in the reading of which she most excels. . Departure of the Representatives. —The Northern representatives will sail for Taranaki and Auckland by the Wellington at 9 o'clock this evening. We understand that great preparations are being made for their reception both in Auckland and at the Thames. At the former place they are to be entertained at a public dinner on Wednesday evening, and at the Thames in a similar manner on the following day. The movements of the Rangatira, which is to take away the Southern representatives are as yet very -uncertain, no news having heen yet received of her leaving Wellington. A Graceful Act. — We have great pleasure in giving publication to the following letter addressed by Major Gordon to the Chairman of the Reception Committee, by which it will be seen that our Volunteer visitors have subscribed the handsome sum of £41, which they have handed over to the Committee for distribution among the various charitable institutions of the City of Nelson. Such an act of kind thoughtfulness on tbeir part will, we are sure, be appreciated by the people of Nelson. The following is a copy of Major Gordon's letter :— Nelsou, 17th March, 1873. Sir — I have the honor, at the request of the Volunteer prizefiring representatives of 1873 and the staff officers; to hand to you the sum ( of £41, which they desire you to he good enough to place at the disposal of such - charitable institutions of , this city , and in such proportions, as your Committee may deem necessary, I have the honor to be, Sir, your most obedient servant, , Wm.
