Education Rate. — It is notified that summonses will be taken out against all persons wbo have not paid the rate for 1872 by the 31st instant. South British Insurance Company. —A meeting of Nelson shareholders will be held at half-past seven, to-morrow evening, at the offices of Messrs Morrison, Sclanders, & Co. His Honor the Superintendent, accompanied by Mr. Catley, started from the Lyell for Nelson overland, on Monday last, and is expected to arrive here on Saturday, Dr. Carr at Spring Grove.— This gentleman is advertised to give a Seance and Lecture at the Schoolroom, Spring Grove, to-morrow night, and at Wakefield the following (Saturday) evening. From the uniform success with which these instructive and amusing entertainments have been attended in Nelson, and, indeed, throughout New Zealand, we augur similar results in the country. : Volunteer Ball. — The ball to the Colonial Representatives came off at the Provincial Hall last night, and proved a most brilliant success. No pains had been spared by the stewards in making all the necessary preparations, and great credit is due to Mr Cbther for the very satisfactory manner in which he carried out his con- .= tract. There were nearly 400 present and dancing was kept up with unflagging spirit until past four this morning, every one, whether hosts or guests, appearing to enjoy themselves amazingly. Distribution op Prizes.— We are requested by Major Gordon, the officer in command of the Representatives, to state that the Volunteers will parade at 4 p.m.* to-morrow, in full dress, with arms and accoutrements, in front of the Police Station, from whence they will be marched to the Botanical Gardens, where the official ceremony of tfae presentation of the prizes will be performed at 5 o'clock punctually, by the Hon. Major Richmond, C.B. and Mrs A.Richmond. In the event of the weather proving wet, the . ceremony will be postponed until the following day, at the same place and time, X
