The return of gold from the Thames from the 20th January to the 17th inst., amounts to 8852£ ounces, obtained from 7266 tons of crushed stone. This amount is considerably in excess of the return for the same period in the preceding month. Theee is tf be a Synod of the Maoris in connection with the Anglican Church. Tt will be held at Hopuhopu, at the residence of the Rev. B. Y. Ashwell. Already several of the Maori members are on the spot: also the Rev. Mr Mauusell, of Hauraki, who is the Bishop's examining chaplain for native applicants for ordination. We have not ascertained the intended programme, but trust that the instruction of the natives iu matters both lay and clerical, will receive the most earnest attention. There are extensive estates in the Waikato set aside and granted to the Church for educational purposes.
