National Bank of Nf/w Zealand, Limited. — We are informed that up to the 12fch instant 9000 shares in this Bank had been applied for ia Auckland alone, out of a total of 33,000 reserved for New Zealand. Sale of Stock. — Messrs Staverfc and Co. held a sale of stock at. their yards at Richmond yesterday, when the following prices were realised : — SOO old ewes, from the Wantwood run, Marlborouob, 5s 3d per head; cross-bred ewes, 13s to 16s; hacks, £5 10s to £16. Resident Magistrates' Court. — Alexander Hunter was yesterday summoned for allowing two horses to roam at large in the streets. Defendant did not appear himself but sent a representative, whereupon his Worship said that in cases of this description the party summoned ,was bound to appear himself, and could not be represented even by a solicitor. He should adjourn the case in order that the defendant might be present. All Saints' Church. — A bazaar in aid of the building fund of the above church will be held in the Assembly Room to-morrow and on Saturday, when a water color painting by Mr Gully, and a large assortment of useful articles, toys, scrap books, &c, will be offered for sale. The doors will be open to-morrow from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. A small charge for admission will be made at the door. Wesletan Church. — An interesting' lecture on British Colonisation was delivered at the Wesleyan Church last night to a crowded audience. The lecture, of which we may give a short sketch tomorrow, was pleasantly interspersed with vocal music by the very effective choir of the Church, whom we must congratulate on their high state of training, and the great taste and sweetness with which they performed their share in providing a very pleasant evening for the Nelson public. Waimea Steeplechase. — The day, as all Waimea steeplechase days have done for years past, broke gloomily this morning, and many are the doubts that have been expressed as to the intentions of the weather. However, nothing daunted, the lovers of this fascinating sport left the town in large numbers this morning, every vehicle in the place having been engaged in the service. We wish them and our Waimea friends a pleasant»day. Motueka. — A public meeting was held on the 11th inst., at the Institute, Motueka, for the purpose of taking steps to procure a medical practitioner for the district, the present surgeon being about to leave for England. B. Macmahon, Esq., J.P., being called to the chair, briefly stated the object of the meeting, when the following resolutions were proposed and carried unanimously : — l. That this meeting is of opinion that steps should be taken immediately to procure a medical practitioner to reside in the district, in the room of Dr Park who is about leaving for England. — 2. That this meeting is also of opinion that it is necessary to appoint two persons to act with the Oddfellows and Foresters in. any measures they may think desirable to auopt, for the purpose stated in the foregoing resolution, and giving such information as may be required with regard to the district or people, by any medical gentleman inclined to settle in the district. —3. That Messrs Tarrant and Wilson be appointed to act in conjunction with the delegates from the Oddfellows and Foresters as a committee to determine what steps should be taken for the purpose of obtaining a medical practitioner for Motueka. — 4. That a report of this meeting be sent to one or more of the provincial papers. — Communicated.
