Waimea Steeplechase MEETiNG-The Grand Stand, sites for booths, &c, wiilbe disposed of at auction by Messrs Stavert and Co, at Forest Inn, to-morrow at 2 p.m. Dr. Carr. ; — Those who are desirous of having their characters phrenologised, may consult this gentleman at tbe Oddfellows' Hall any afternoon this week. Murray's Circus. — The circus still continues to draw good houses, and to afford general satisfaction to tbe visitors. There will be another performance this eveniDg, after which Mr Murray purposes making a tour through the country. Coroner's Inquest. — An enquiry was held at the Bush Tavern this . afternoon before Lowther Broad, Esq., coroner, inquiring into tbe origin of a flre which occurred on Monday last in the house of Mr. Thomas Nisbet in tbe Wood. An open verdict was returned. The evidence, which eupplies full ground for suspicion and further enquiry, will appear in our next. Harmonic Society's Concert. — A concert, the programme of which will be found in our advertising columns, is to be given at the Provincial Hall to-morrow evening by the Harmonic Society in aid of the fund for tbe piano recently imported from England, when tbe new instrument will be played in public for tbe first time. Judging from the programme, the concert should prove an eminently popular one. Among other items we notice a duet for tbe harp and piano, which will be quite a novelty in Nelson. The tickets, we are glad to hear, are meeting with a rapid sale, and a bumper house may be expected. Resident Magistrate's Court. — Scotland v. Green. — This was an action to recover the sum of £.65 ss. being the amount of balance alleged to be due to plaintiff for commission as an architect on a house costing £850. Plaintiff claimed 5 per> cent, on £850 ; £19 for extra journeys; £12 15s. for copies for contractors; £7 for meetings and advertising, and £5 10s. for extra plans. £24 10s. had been paid on account, and a further sum of £8, sa.- into Court.
