PROFESSIONAL REPUTATION.

To the Editor op the Nelson Evening Mail. Sir,—As the manager of the Perseveiance Mine is willing to standi on what he somewhat grandiloquently styles his " professional reputation," in-^ead of on his pleas and social qualities, he has laid himself open to be catechised. And I am glad to see by your Monda*. 's issue that the process has been recommenced by one who has a considerable interest in the good management of the mine I have heard a great deal in various parts of the town concerning Mr Adams's utter incompetency—in fict such incompetency ba9 been pointed out in the press many times without eliciting a reply from Mr Adams ; how be came to act so unwise a part as to write that very foolish letter in the Examiner astonishes his best friends. I merely write this to call upon those persons who have written or spoken on the points to come forward and answer the challenge so recklessly given as to his ' professional reputation, by the present manager of ti e mine. I think it behoves the Directors of the Company now, if it did not before, to make a rigid inquiry into the past management of the Perseverance Mine, and to remedy its evil administrating that a mine which would have paid well in other places should no longer be a laughing-stock to outsiders, and a dead loss to the shareholders. I am, &c, A Shareholder. Nelson, February 4.
