MELBOURNE. January 25. — Mr. Duffy is to be knighted. It is rumoured that Sir J. M'Culloch is to be appointed Governor of South Australia. The Sandhurst dividends last week showed a surplus over the calls of £28,000. Large orders have been sent to Tasmania for Port Arthur ccal. A quantity of goods suppoped to have come by the mail steamer Baroda are missing, and it is supposed that they were thrown overboard by the Mooltan in a gale encountered in the passage from Southampton to Malta. Great dissatisfaction is expressed at the Exhibition awards. Wallis has been disqualified by all racing bodies for offering a hiibe to a jockey. The Cossack has sailed for Plymouth. Wool: greaey, S£d to 13Jd ; scouted, 18d to 25d. ■ Extreme heat has been felt all over the colony. Mr. Yogel was detained in Melbourne by the gout, hut followed the delegates by the next steamer. Most of the denominational schools are coming in uuder tbe Act, SYDNEY. January 25.— -The Newcastle colliers are still on the strike. All attempts at reconciliation have failed. The masters offer to raise the price of coal to 12s, the miners receiving an advance of threepence, but no reduction ia hours till January next. At the Conference, all the delegates were present. The postal question was discussed, and they then adjourned until the 27th inst. , Wool sales dull. ADELAIDE. January 25.— Two shocks of earthquake were felt on Saturday. AU the railway stations are blocked up with wheat. THE LATEST. Melbourne, January 25. — The coal supply in Melbourne at present is 4000 tons, exclusive of that held by the gas companies who have about six weeks' supply. Prices of coal for steamers are 60s to 65s per ton; for ordinary use, 72s 6d to 755. A number of the engineers are using wood, and will continue to do so until the price is down to 30s, Seventy to eighty vessels are lying idle at Newcastle. Tookey's four issues sold at £14 10. Kerosine in bond lig-d, and 2s in the market. S-J.DNET, January 25.— The Balmain Eegatta Committee telegraph the acceptance by the Loudon rowing club of the conditions fbr bringing out an English crew. For continuation of news see fourth page.
