VIENNA EXHIBITION.

Magnetic iron ores (used chiefly for the manufacture of fiver descriptions of iron for conversion into steel). Compact and granular, from Dun Mountain Nelson. Haematites (anhydrotte, or red Hematites) — Specular iron ore, from Dun Mountain. Compact, from D'Urville's Island, Nelson. Impure micaceous iron ore stratum, from Baton river, Nelson. Hydrous, or brown Hematites, from Collingwood, Nelson. Brown ore, from Parapara; Nelson. Chrome Ores — Massive chromic iron; chrystalic chromic iron, Dun Mountain, Nelson. Copper Ores — Native copper; also, slates, in Serpentine, Dun Mountain, Nelson; copper pyrites; grey sulphide, Wangapeko, Nelson; blue carbonate of copper, Dun Mountain; cuprious iron ore, in Serpentine, Dun Mountain;; galcena, Perseverance mine, Collingwood, Nelson; arsenic of lead, Dun Mountain, Nelson. Coals— - Bituminous coals (caking) — Much jointed, homogeneous, tender and friable, lustre pitch-like, often irridescent, color black, with a purple hue, powder brownish, cakes strongly, the best varieties formiug a vitreous coke with brilliant metalie lustre. Average evaporative power of several samples : — 7-| lbs of steam for each pound of coal; occurs with grits and conglomerates of upper meaozoic age. Buller, Grey, and Collingwood coalfields on the West Coast of Nelson, in seams from two to twenty feet in thickness. Zinc ore (yellow or horny blende).-— This ore occurs in the Perseverance Mine, Collingwood; and in small quantity in Tararua Creek, Thames. • J. Johnston and T. B. Louiseon, Nelson • — Hematite pigment. Weßtporfc Committee, Nelson — From the Buller district, specimens of gold, auriferous quartz, washdirt, ores, coal, &c, &c. The Reefton Committe, Nelsonylnangahua district — Specimens of gold, auriferous quartz, washdirt, ores, coal, &c, &c, MISCELLANEOUS. ; W. Cook, Nelson— Twelve exhibits, all manufactured from New Zealand iiax by exhibitor, viz : — Two hearthrugs, two parlor mats, two bedroom mats, four hall mats, one railway mat, and one carnage mat. Simons and Malcolm — Two , door mats. ' Webley Bros., Nelson — Samples of tweeds manufactured by exhibitors. [Messrs Webley send direct from Nelson.] James Smith, Nelson— Exhibit of assorted wines, &c. William Gibbs, Nelson — Six bottles (two samples each) of colonial-made cider, cherry wine, and. syrup ; manufactured by exhibitor.
