TAKAKA SCHOOL.

On December 20 the yearly examination of the pupils at the Long Plain School took place at the schoolroom, being conducted by H. Lewis, Esq., who had kindly undertaken the duty af, the request of the Local Committee. There was a good attendance, and the pupils behaved themselves exceedingly well, and appeared to satisfy all present with tbeir examination, which was very creditable considering that there had been* so much wet weather during the year that it had prevented many of the children from attending regularly. The 26th was appointed for the distribution of the prizes, which took place in the presence of a very good audience. Tea followed, and after that a dance in the schoolroom. The following is the prize list : — First Class — Ist prize, Annie Dodson; 2nd, Jessie McCallura. Second Class — Ist prize, Annie McCallum; 2nd, Afred Dodson; 3rd, Isabella Scott. Tbird Class— First Prize. Charles Hitch cock; 2nd, Archibald McCallum; 3rd, Robert Scott. Fourth Class— First prize, Martha Walker; 2nd, Jno. Hunter; 3rd, James Hunter; 4th, Isabella Dodson; sth, John McCallum; 6th, Edward Hitchcock; 7th, Eliza Scott: Bth, Elizabeth M-Callum; 9.h, William Walker: . 10th, Jas. H.
