TELEGRAPHIC INTELLIGENCE. [Per Anglo- Australia*** Psess Telegkafh A GENCT.] PROVINCIAL. AxJCKLANn, January 8. Thomas and Barraclough's steam flour mills and a large quantity oi wheat and flour burnt. Insured in the Eoyal. Wellington, January s. The Dacotah sailed south at eight this morning. The Independent of to-day has another article relative to the formation of the Wellington Company to work the Brunner Coalmine. It says O'JSiell, M.H.R., waited upon tbe Superintendent of Nelson to ascertain the terms upon which he would grant a lease for the mine. O'JSiell was led to believe the proposal was favorably enter- • tamed, but was informed it was necessary to lay the matter bffore tbe Waste Lands Board. Since then no definite reply lias been received. It expects that the considerate n of the* matter is postponed. The Independent says t the reason tor delay is that Mr. Curtis became alarmed lest Wellington enterprise should develop the mine he so long tinkered with, and called a private meeting of Kelson gentlemen to induce' them to develop the mine; but though there was a great deal of talking, there was nO chance of sufficient capital being raised. The Independent says the only chance for developing the mine is taking it out of Mr Curtis'incompetent hands, and making it a colonial property.
