last night, when Mr. Maclean was appointed umpire, and Messrs. West, H. Cross, and Stallard a bpmmittee to superintend the shore? sports. It; was resolved: that a Regatta ball should take place in the evening. The committee then adjourned until to-morrow evening. St Maey's Bazaar. — The bazaar in aid j of St Mary's Schools, for which preparations have been making for nearly two years, will open in the Provincial Hall tomorrow, and be continued on that and the two following days. No pains have been spared by those who have been interesting themselves in the matter to make it a thorough success, and we hear that the stalls will be well stocked with every description of articles both useful and ornamental. The^b'ezaar opens on each day at two p.m.^, closes at six, and reopens at half-past seven. To the other attractions will be added music, both vocal and instrumental, so that nothing will be wanting to please either the eye or the ear. Me George Cotterejll. — We are glad to find that this talented gentleman has sufficiently recovered from the serious illness which unfortunately cut short his highly-successful Aastralian career to be able to once again tsppear before the public. It will be seen by advertisement that he purposes giving an entertainment on Monday evening next, the first part of which will consist of representations of a few of his old and most favorite characters, and some entirely new ones, and the second of the farce entitled "Turn him Out," in which Mr Colterell will receive the assistance of a few lady and gentleman amateurs whose performances on the stage have more than once delighted Nelson audiences. . Mesmerism. — "Dr Carr had a large audience at the Assembly Boom last night, when, after a lecture on phrenology and mesmerism, he examined the phrenological developments of several volunteers who ascended the stage for the purpose. Laugh-ing-gas was then administered greatly to the amusement of the audience, after which some young men were placed under mesmeric influence, and made to perform | some strange antics, among others that of bolting out of" the room in great haste under the impression that the police were after them. In doing this, one of them met with a nasty accident, as in his haste he put his arm through the glass door, smashing it and cutting his band badly. Dr Carr will appear again to-morrow evening, when he will lecture on "Man and the Gorilla.!' {
