Governors and the Provincial Government. This ■was highly encouraging to those who had advocated thejestablishment of these scholarships. Dr Boor wished .to remark that although Botany was. an entirely new ; subject, the answers that had" Keen given were far more satisfactory than could have been expected, and the interest displayed in it seemed to promise that great progress would be made. Mr Barnicoat having,, on behalf of the Governors, thanked Mr Poole for undertaking the laborious task of conducting the examinations, the prizes were distributed by his Honor the Superintendent. The list of winners was as follows: — SCHOLAESHIPS. Stafford Scholarship— Modern History: PeyerneFirst Foundation Scholarship— Classics: Severne. It having been inserted in the deed of gift by Mr. Stafford that his scholarship might be held in conjunction- with another, Severhe will retain both, although in all other cases, two scholarships are not allowed to be held by the same student. Second Foundation Scholarship— Classics: W. Watts. . ' First Foundation Scholarship — Mathematics: Wither (1), Blackett (2). Campbell I (3). SPC3RTS PRIZES. The numerous and valaab'e prizes won at the Sports were then distributed by Mrs E, W. Stafford. The Silver Challenge Cup and a gold Ting, on which were engraved the College Arms were* - presented to Blundell, Wither who was second in the competition receiving an Aneroid ■ barometer. This portion of the proceedings being over, a handsomely mounted hunting whip wag presented on behalf of the school to Wither, on the occasion of his leaving the College, by Roy, the next senior boy, who said : — Before we brenk •up and leave, which many of us are about to do for the last time as schoolfellows, we should like to give you a substantial proof of our goodwill towards you. For many years, ever since I came here, you have taken a leading part in all our games, and it is altogether owing to your untiring efforts that we have held our own against the town in football and cricket so well as we have done. But, besides, your fair and gentlemanly conduct has always made you a favorite with us, and I am certain that the example which you, as a senior boy, have set has gone far towards giving the College a name unsurpassed by any other school in the colony. In accordance with the wishes, of many of your fellows, I now present you with this slight proof of our esteem. As a mere gift it is of but little worth, but when you remember that it is accompanied by the best wishes of the givers, and, I am sure, of everybody else in this room, I think you will prize it at rather more than its mere money value, and sometimes when you are using it, I hope you will think of those with whom you have passed so many years at school. Cheers were then given for Mrs. Stafford, his Honor the Superintendent, the Masters, the Govenors, Mr. Poole, and the ladies, and the proceedings terminated.
