Westpoet, "December 13. The Alpine Company at the Lyell have found rich stone in the reef lately covered by a land slip and again struck. Ihe specimens are enormously ri«h. The Little Wonder stone is better than evf r. A new reef has been opened at Eight-mile Creek, Grey mouth. Five men have been buried at Half-ounce Diggings, on Wheeler's claim. Two are dead ' and two were rescued, lliefate of the other is unascertained. Wellington, Dec. 13. The head quarters of the new National Bank are declared to be at Wellington. The Government have decided to spend £1000 on the purchase of articles for the Vienua i<xhibitioD. An arrangement has been made with the Bank of New Zealand to collect specimens of quartz and alluvial gold from different parts of thf colony. Plans and sections of gold mines in New Zealand are being prepared; also specimens of woolh n manufacture from Nelson and Ota>o Eighteen hundred weight of fl-ix sent b* Halcyone to be tiianufrtctured into towelling, sheeting, &c, for exhibition, slabs and sections ol all kinds of timbers.
