**"Reefton. — (Extract from a private letter.) — Reefton is not a lively place as yet, and a few will have to sell out or shut up to let the remainder make a living, for it is very certain so large a town cannot be supported by tbe present working population. Moreover, where the largest amount of workings are going on, there, is quite a township (Black's Point), which consists of two large stores, &c, as well as several of the smaller sort, and at most every place keeps " a bottle" (digging parlance for sly grog). By Christmas there will be thre,e more crushing machines at "work, making in all six machines, containing eighty heads of stampers. : A considerable quantity of quartz will be reduced weekly, and certainly ought to enliven the district a little. ; "Inangahua;. ••— The Westport Times of Tuesday last says:— " Alluvial workings ; inTßeef ton district are. attracting increased attention. ; A nugget weighing ITpzs^wa^l^y fpuiid;; near Kthe head; of Ne w Ch ul^^eek^and another.: weighing' j;l3ozs.iv'4dwjts^ ;has'; : :been ? ,);also^;-fpiind; £iir; ground^ and has been sent, down to Mr. ;Jamea r Powell; Good payab^ ground; hasolb6;been Btruci' ; in .Redman^ where about
