We have received what we presume is , intended to be a mild reproof from the Examiner this morning for having afforded the Grey Biver Argus an opportunity of making merry at the expense of Nelson. We are not aware where we have colored too highly, .hut admit that it is possible we . may have, done so, as when a man is very much in earnest, he is prone to go to extremes. We know we have said some very hard things^" have made some exceedingly unpalateable remarks, but our .object ••.waß to set men thinking, and that .object has, and we say it with some little pridei been fully ajttained. the time may have appeared somewhat rough treatment. If we have given expression to groundless fears, all we can say is that we have erred in very good company, for, had not the forty or fifty gentlemen who met the. other night been .impressed with a like conviction of the present depressing siate^of affairs, something more than an article or two in a newspaper would have been needed to induce them to take an active part in attempting to remedy it. As for the funny article in the Argus to which reference is made, no doubt it amused the writer, but really we cannot see how it is to hurt us.
