Wellington, Dec. 2. Portions of the wreck of the City of Newcastle have been picked up by the schooner Eli2abeth. Mr. Duncan Guy, of Nelson, has been appointed clerk to the Resident Magistrate's Court, Wanganui, and Mr. Baddely, late clerk of the Resident Magistrate's Court, Wangauai, succeeds, him. The Defence Office will shortly issue a new set of rules for the guidance of commanding officers. One rule will enable commanding officers to strike off the roll any non-attenciing members. There will be no annual inspection this year. Christchukch, December 2. There is to he a meeting of the Jockey Club to-night to consider whether Peeress is to be disqualified or not, LrTTELTON, November '3o. Arrived : Asterope, from Nelson. Auckland. November 30. Edward Dent, charged with perjury in evidence in a case of slander, Lincoln v. Dent, was remanded. John Eyton was killed by a blow from a rifle by Edward MAdams, both gum diggers. Verdict manslaughter. MAdams is arrested. Mr. Clark and Mr. Buckland met their constituents at Papakura, when a vote of thanks was accorded them. '.
