The Claud Hamilton arrived off Hokitika at 8 o'clock this morning; she left. Melbourne on October 30. Australian telegrams in to-morrow's issue. Canterbury Races —These races take place to-morrow, and on Friday and Mon- . day. Our telegrams state that Peeress is scratched for die Cup, but from what reaches us from other sources of information, we are disposed to believe tbat this is a mistake, Yatterina, and not Peeress, being the mare referred to. ■ Accident. — A serious accident occurred yesterday evening to Mr. G. Witney, ■who, when walking on the Waimea-road, stumbled and fell on his head on a stone, thereby sustaining a severe injury. He was at once removed to the Hospital, where, we hear, he is doing well. Entertainment. — It will be seen by . advenisemeot that Mr. Maclaren, assisted I^By; several amateurs, proposes to give a ||TOisc.llaneouß entertainment at the Odd■pellow-' Hall, on Monday evening next. glphe^prices of admiseion are fixed at* a and this, combined with Mr. KMaclaren'e acknowledged skill as a conjuror, should ensure him a good house. Accident to the* Bishop^ op Nelson. -—An accident, which mi^ht have been attended with very serious consequences, occurred this afternoon to the Bishop of Nelson, who was driving up Altonstreet near the Dun Mountain yard, when .his horse shied, and suddenly turning round, ran one of the wheels of the trap, a two-wheeled vehicle, into the mill-stream, then started off, and part of the harness breaking, the shafts fell to the ground, and the Bishop was thrown out with great force. He is much shaken and bruised, and suffering a great deal of pain;, but it is hoped that he has not sustained any serious io jury.
