The Nelson Evening Mail. TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 1872.

. The eteamer Kennedy left Westport; . for Nelson, at 12.20 p.m. to-day. Evenings with .the Musical Composers.—We remind our readers of the entertainment to be given at the Assembly Room, this evening, when an excellent programme and low rates of admission should ensure a full house. . Wakefield Cricket Club. — The opening game of the season wns to be played at Wakefield to-day, to be followed by a ball in the evening at the Lower Wakefield schoolroom, when the local brass band will be in attendance. The Late Fire. — To the verdict arrived at yesterday, there was appended the following rider : — " The jury engaged - , on the inquest held upon the late fire in Trafalgar-street beg respectfully to direct; the attention of the Board of Works to the fact that a number of chimneys constructed chiefly of thin iron, in the above and other parts of the City, are so low as to be in very dangerous proximity to shingled roofsi They, also feel constrained to complain of the proofs of utter disregard of all sanitary rule which are found to exist in that and other localities of the City, and which must act most prejudicially to the public- health." Accident. — A serious accident, by which a little child of about seven years of age, the son of Mr. Josephs, of Trafal-gar-street, had tbe thigh bone of his right leg brdkeD, occurred in Hardy-street this morning. The poor little fellow, it appears, was following the watercart, from • behind which he ran into the middle of the road just as Mr. Armstrong's van drove up, the wheel of which knocked him down and passed over him, inflicting the injury above stated. The van was at the lime in charge of a little boy of about ten years of age, and though we are not in a position to say that the present accident could have been avoided, it is necessary to remark that vehicles of this description, which are usually driven through the streets at a rapid pace, would not be attended with so much danger to foot passengers were they placed in charge of more experienced drivers. ;
