Sale op Plate, &c. — We have been requested to call attention to Mr. J. R. Mabin's valuable sale of Plate, &c, which will take place at his auction rooms, tomorrow^ at noon. Owing to a number of advertisements being sent in at a late hour, we Have today been compelled to publish a supplement, in which will be found most of the local and general news. Fire .-r A little after 2 o'clock this afternoon the alarm of fire was sounded, and smoke seen issuing from tbe building occupied by Mr. Foy as a butchei's shop in Trafalgar-street. A rush was at once made for tbe hydrant usually kept in the pedestal of the lamp in Trafalgar-street, but, afire not having been anticipated, it was found that it was absent, being on duty with the water-cart. With their usual promptitude, the Brigade turned out, and were soon on tbe spot with the hose-reel and hydrant from the enginehouse, and a jet of water was soon playing on tbe burning building from the rear. By this time, however, the flames had secured a strong hold on the roof, and it became apparent that if tbe fire was to be kept under it would require to be attacked from the front as well. A hydrant was therefore attached in Trafaigar- , street, but some t^o willing but injudicious volunteers laid hold of the hose, pulled at it with such force as to bend and render tbe hydrant useless, and some time elapsed before the water could be secured from a plug in Bridge-street. Eventually, two strong jets were at work, and, as a natural result, tbe flames were soon subdued. Nearly all the furniture and contents of the shop were saved, but the building, we are sorry to learn, was uninsured.
