DELIGHTFULLY COMPETENT.
Or (From the Melbourne Herald) Mr. Walker is a rising young, legislator, who will one of these days hold office as a Minister of the Crown, that is to say, if he is a good boy, and doesn't fly his kite too high. It is no wonder that, having been a schoolmariter himself, he recently made in the Assembly a very good speech on the Education question. During its delivery he convulsed the House by giving examples of the sort of remarks made by members of the local visiting boards. The sample- is so good that we cannot refrain from publishing it. Here it is :■ — The following were a few samples made by the local committeemen : — " Visited this, school and found present 25i§ things In a ord ley manner and to the satesfaction of all with whom I have converst with." «» I on of the local comtee visted this school and found pasent 27 children, and to all appierence everything goninging on all wright and Mr.— — given satesfaction to all partis. 1 ' [The reading of the entries, which the lion, member spelled for the information of the House, created much laughter.] " I have this day visted this school Found the children grately improved both in disciplen and education." "I have this day visited the school, well concerted, great improvement." " Viseted the school, roods verey hevvey, small attendance." (Laughter.) "Viseted the school, found all in good oarder and getting on weel." " Visited the school, which I found in verry effecient state." " Mode a visit to school, everything in good order, but a terable at arm raging out Side." (Much laughter.) " Visited the school, orrgaoicasion very indifferent pensills to short." (Laughter.) " Beying in nayborhood went to school, found master asslep, scolars playing." If Mr. Walker were to persevere in his researches he might forward the result to Josh Billings. In America there would be money ie it.
