Baptist Church. — Anniversary sermoDS.are to be preached io the Baptist Church, in Bridge-street, on Sunday next by the RevslW. J. Watkin, and P. Caider. On the following Wednesday there Will be a public Tea Meeting, when several addresses will be delivered, and a selection of sacred music sung by the Tonic Sol-Fa class, which will on that occasion make Us first appearance in public under the direction of Mr J. T. Smith. The Kabamba.— The mining parties at the Karamea are about to organise" a prospecting company to test tbe back country where, on various, occasions, good indications of alluvial gold have been founds but owing to the difficulty of obtaining and carrying supplies of tucker, the search hasonly been partial. The Karamea men intend now to send oat four mates, properly equipped, and keep them periodically supplied with .necessaries.— Westport Times. Resident Magistrate's Court — Elsewhere we publish a brief report of some important cases of appeal against the assessment by the Upper Motueka Road Board, which were beard before the Resident Magistrate at Spring Grov.e yesterday. They are, we believp, the first cases of appeal under the colonial " Highways Act." The evidence was taken yesterday, and the cases were then adjourned to Nelson for legal argument ou Saturday, the 19th instant. Diocesan Synod. — The opening of the annual session of the Diocesan Synod, which was to have taken place to-morrow, has been unavoidably postponed - until Thursday evening, owing to a delay in the sailing of the steamer from the West Coast. Morning service will on that day be held in Christ Church at li a.m., when the sermon will be preached by. the: Rev. G-. T.N. Watkins, after which the Holy' Communion will be administered. The Right Rev. the Bishop of Nelson will deliver his opening address at 4 o'clock in the afternoon, at the Temperance Hall, which will be open to the public.
