The Public Works Committee recommended that a drain be constructed, and temporary repairs executed in Parei-e-street, and that the ditches be cleaned out and the road crowned up in Bca'chville. Rr Lev.cn, stating that as the takini? up of ' the rails and sleepers iii Brook-street "Valley left the road somewhat uneven, he proposed that ? thei Board should make the necessary repairs, and receive in compensation therefor the "bridge, over the Brook-street . stream in Manuka-street. The Board decided not to' accept Mr.Levien's offer as they intended to build a bridge over the stream, alongside the present pipe bridge. ... ■A telegram was read from Mr. Curtis to the following effect : " Nelson Loan .Bill. No further progress. Second reading - still far off" The following reply was sent by the chairman :•— (i The Board ol Works, by resolution, request me to telegraph you that if Nelson- -Loan Act! is not pnssed this session, the Board will have an extra liability of. j£lßoo for -brick contract alone, ■■ : and nothing whatever. but the- ordinary rates to meet it, and these probably crippled by Gas and Waterworks Acts.
