The report of the Select Committee on Mr Curtis's Larceny Bill is promised next. week. , The following Bills were read the first time last night : Distillation Act Amendment Bill, Auckland University Bill, Quartz Stealing lJetention Bill. - Mr. Kelly's motion respecting only two classes of railways was postponed. : The House ordered an inquiry into the petition of J. B. Russell of Auckland, iv which charges are made against Mr. Beckhain, B.M. A discussion took place on the appointment of a Select Committee to inquire into the dispute between the Province of Wellington and the Colony. . The Opposition spoke against the appointment. ; ; - September 27. . The Otago Waste Landa, and Oaruaru Dock Trust Bills were read a third time. The Nelson Waste Lands Bill was committed. The Wanganui Borrowing Bill was read the first time. ; The Dunedin Waterworks Bill was read the second time. '....' Mr. o' Koike's motion for .placing .£10,1)00 on the Estimates, to be offered as rewards for the discoveries of new ■goldfields in both islands was amended, the House authorising the offer of rewards, and agreeing to. indemnify the ;(srovernment for their payment. The question of compensation to' Henry 1 Smythies came on for discussion, but the House adjourned .Wore the debate was concluded. The amount claimed is £10,800. . . ,
