PARLIAMENTARY.
Wellington, September 21. The Maori Representative Act was brought on last night, when. Mr. Sheehan moved that the number of representatives be increased to seven. He made a long speech, praising the conduct of the present members, and urging that they had earned the respect of all. Mr. Stafford promised to take steps to increase 'the representation by one. Mr. Sheehan agreed to withdraw Ms amendment, and eventually progress was reported •nothing having been done, "Mr. Beynolds being obstructive. The Government Contractors Arbitration Bill, and Nelson Waste Lands Bill -were read the 1 second time. A caucus of Auckland members was held" to-day, to consider the question of - the seat ot Government, separation, and the financial position of Auckland. It was resolved to defer any decision as to the action to be taken until the Public Works and Financial Statements had been made. >
