On the motion of Mr. Dencker it was resolved I—"; That ;bye-law No;. 8;; which; provides that scholars who' lose or wantonly deface books or maps must replace them at their own expense, be held to apply to teachers also. It was resolved on the motion of the Bishop. of Nelson: "That a committee consisting of Messrs. Richmond, Burn, R. Smith, Sharp, Wastney, Rout, Baruicoat,; and the mover, be appointed to consider, the best method under the present Education Act of increasing the attendance at the schools. (l.)By ascertaining what is the, proportion of children attending the schools to the whole number of the children ascertained by censusi (2.) By considering whether it, would be practicable to divide the districts into sub-districts^ ■ in./ which persons deputed by the Board might ascertain whether, there, were cb.il-.-dren. not attending- schools .between the ages of five and fourteen. v (3.) By urging upon the l; Government the necessity of establishing a registered Industrial School to which vagrant and neglected children maybe committed by theßeeident Magistrate."
