AREIVAL OF THE SUEZ MAIL
The Albion left Melbourne at 8 p.m. on the 28th August, and arrived at the Bluff at 8 oclock last night, -with the Suez mail. She leaves for Dunedin at 3 p.m. to-day. Melbourne, August 28. — The steamer Governor Blackall arrived at Adelaide on the 22nd, with London dates to July 12, and via Galle to August 3. There were very few pas- - sengers for Australia, and none for New Zealand. New Zealand exports show a decrease of £59,000. Money is quiet, and the hank rate 'of discount is 3 per cent. Germany has withdrawn a million sterling, bat large supplies of gold are arriving, A depression exists on the Stock Exchange, notwithstanding a Bank dividend of £13. The revenue and trade returns are satisfactory. New Zealand Consolidated fives, January and April, July and October, 104; ditto, sixes 1891, March and September, 112$; ditto sixes, June and December, 111. Late telegrams report an advance of £1. Wool : Since] the opening of the sales 403,500 bales have been sold. The hesitation has given way to steadiness in most sorts. The sales commenced at prices equal to average April quotations. Superior greasy has been neglected, and 4000 bales withdrawn for sale at the opening on September 12. Tallow : Owing to a sudden fall in Russian, and large supplies from the Horn, and of colonial, tallow has declined a shilling on the sales of 6000 out of a stock of 10,000 casks. Imports, 30,000 casks. Sydney oil, £32 to £36; Sperm, £86 to £87; Hides in demand, Leather receded. Average Adelaide wheat, 60s to 625. New Zealand flax, 260 bales sold at full prices. Telegrams say that oa July 31 Consols were 92£.. : Arrived from New Zealand : Nora Gambles, City ot Dunedin, Imperial, Ferndale, Warrior Queen. Sailed : Asterope, Bedlington, Glenhuntley, E. P. Bduverie, and Peter Denny. Loading for New Zealand, twelve. The treaty of evacuation : of the occupied districts of France passed the Assembly without discussion. The Budget Debates in the Assembly were remarkable for scandalous scenes and violence. The Protestant Synod has depided upon the orthodox creed by 61 to 45. The Pope threatens agitation and mischief if his temporal power is not restored. Orders have been given to the Romish priests to take an active part in the election?. The strike of 20,000 coal miners is attributed to the intrigues of the Papal party with the International. The P. and O. Company's sf^a^p peccan won the tea race home by a few hours.
