August 28.—The cable is still interrupted, but communication between Port Darwin and Adelaide is complete and effective. B. G. Ewatt has been forwarded under an extradition order to Dunedin on a charge of larceny as a bailee of .£2CO. Notice has been given in the Assembly of a Bill to legalise marriage with a deceased wife's sister. Tookey's (new) are placed at 385., obtainable at 365., buyers, 348. Flour, £16 10s. to £16155.; wheat, 7s. to 7s. 6d.; oats, 3s. 4d. to 3s. 6d.; sugar firmer; teas, full rates maintained. Kauri timber, ex Wentworth, realised 13s. 9d. to 17s. 6d.
