English Mail. — We have been requested to state that as the Wellington has been engaged to carry the English mail from Auckland, she will leave to-morrow morning at six o'clock, and not Sunday, as previously advertised. Commission of the Peace. — Eight new Justices of the Peace have recently been appointed; Frank Jellicoe, Esq., of Motueka, two in Auckland, one at Napier, two in Otago, one in Canterbury, and one in Wellington. The Australasian announces the death of thOj, well-known actress, professionally known as Miss Julia Harlnnd, hut whose real name was Mrs William Hoskins, she being the wife of Mr Hoskins, the comedian, who was recently in Nelson. Perseverance Company.— The election of a director of this Company in the room of Mr. A. Sclanders, resigned, took place yesterday, Mr. F. Simmons, Dr. Squires, and Mr Carter were proposed, but the former withdrew. Dr. Squires and Mr. Carter went to the poll, when the former was elected by 168 votes to 32. Football. — The match between the Nelson and College Clubs, which was unavoidably postponed from last ■ Saturday, owing to the wet weather, will be played at the Botanical Gardens to-morrow at three o'clock, weather permitting. It is requested that, if possible, all the players should appear in uniform. A Grahamstown telegram dated August 26th says: — The Maori king has sent his gold watch to Mr. James Mackay, jun., by a natjye named Tuinipi, for him to get it cleaned and procure a gold ch^n. He has invited Mr. Mackay to visit him, and take back the watch. It is presumed the watch is only a passport as it is in good order.
