The Nelson Evening Mail. THURSDAY, AUGUST 22, 1872.

(~* Boat Building-. — A large iron boat, 60 feetlongand 10 feet in the beam, is now in course of construction, and approaching completion, at Mr. Moutray's foundry, in Bridge-street. We understand that she is being built to order for the Westportand Beefton trade. Outward English Mail. — Wo would remind our readers that the outward home mail via Suez will leave Nelson by the Alhambra on Wednesday next. As the .Nevada from Sou Fraucisco lias r.ofc yet arrived in New Zealand, aud some uncertainty as to whether she will reach Auckland before the departure of the Alhambra, we would suggest that correspondence for England and the European Continent should this month be sent by the latter boat. It will be necessary to attend to the Postoffice regulations which require that all letters to be despatched by this route should be specially marked "Via Suez," or "Via Brindisi." Erkatum. — An error in the punctuation, •which was not discovered until too late to be remedied, occurred in our report of the Financial Statement yesterday, rendering an important sentence wholly unintelligible. As printed, it read: — "During 1869, the value of imports into the United Kingdom represented £9 14s. 4d. per head of. the population, and the exports represented a value of £7 16s, per head in New Zealand. During the same year the imports represented £18 4s. per head, and exports £15 9s. per head." It should have been: — ''During 1869, the value of imports into the United Kingdom represented £9 1 45. 4d. per head of the population, and the exports represented a value of £7 16s. per head. In New Zealand duringjjtheaamejyear," &c. Serious Accident. — An accident of a very serious nature occurred this afternoon at the Port to Major Paton, a well-known resident in the Waimea district. At the present moment we are only able to give but a very brief account of the painful occurrence j but so far as we are able to gather, it appears that he was on a visit to the barque William Prowse, accompanied by cue of his daughters and Mr Daniell, and that he was standing on the bulwarks, " in stepping down from which he made a false step, and fell a depth of 19 feet into the empty hold. He was at once removed to the Ship Hotel, and Dr. Cotterell was sent for, from whom we learn that the right arm is completely shattered. . On making later inquiries, ■we regret to say that we have been informed that internal injuries have been sustained of so serious a nature that there is little probability of the patient living through the night. The Grey Valley Times says that scrip iv the Westland Company which has been offered as low as 3s, is now unsaleable at any price. These scrip were eagerly bought at £3, two months ago. The (?. 72. Argus says:— The Rev. T. JTl&vel], of Charleston, has been invited by members of the English Church at Beefton to take charge o.f that district, and the . Bishop of Nelson has acceded to their request. - Brunner Coalmine. — In reply to a question by. Mr Harrison, Mr Reeves, stated that the Government did not consider the amendments proposed by the Provincial Council in the arrangement with Nelson about the Brunner Coalmine railway;, to be an improvement for the public good, but the question was not •■: finally decided. ,He expected the contract for; :she. raijwjay wpuld be signed wjthiu ft

month. The rails, &c, hnd been ordered from England in April, and an order for the rolling stock would be sent next mail.
