PUBLIC MEETING.
A crowded meeting, afc wbich most of our lending citizen?, and many influential country settlers were present, was held at the Provincial Hall last night, Mr H. Adams, the Deputy-Superintendent, in the chair. The Chairman said that they all knew the object 'of the meeting, which had been called by him in compliance ... with a requisition, bearing between 300 and 400 signatures. He had frequently expressed his views with reference to the Nelson and Foxhill railway, which, he looked upon only as the beginning. of a line that was to run from one end of lhe island to the ,other. . The Government had; hitherto displayed' 'great dilatqriness in commencing .this work, and it was for. the purpose of showing them that, the people of Nelson were in earnest in demanding what was their just right that they were thero (hat evening.
