The Nelson Evening Mail. FRIDAY, AUGUS T 9, 1872.
An Accident occurred recently to a son of Mr Falla, at Wesport, who got the fore finger of his right hand crushed between the cogwheels of a chaff-cutter so badly that it had to be amputated. Perseverance Company. — A meeting of the shareholders is advertised to be held ou Tuesday, the 27ih inst., for the purpose of electing a director in the place of Mr A. Sclanders who has resigned his seat on the Board> he having been elected at the annual meeting without his knowledge or consent. In tendering his resignation, he says : " Whilst continuing to tske the warmest interest in all the affairs of the Company, I regret that I cannot spare the time from oilier duties to give that attention to its business which is required in so important an office as Director." Nelson and Foxhill Rail-way.— A very strong feeling on this subject ia gradually extending through the town of Nelson and tbe surrounding districts, and a public meeting is called for Tuesday next, in order to afford an opportunity of passing resolutions which shall strengthen the hands of our representatives in demanding that there shall be no more trifling with the interests of the Province. The following telegram in answer to that received from Mr Luckie yesterday has been forwarded to that gentleman : — Your reply considered too vague. We want more definite answer as to zohen railway will be commenced. Comparisons are drawn between the energy shown by the Marlborough members relative to Picton line, and the supineness of the Nelson members as to Foxhill line; Public meeting to be called immediately by DeputySuperintendent. The Separation Question. — The Westport Times is evidently getting a *little nervous with reference to the success of its petted project. The Evening Mail is favoured witb a quiet and amusing little rub, and our contemporary then goes on to say : — Already, here in Westport, may be seen a worthy individual suddenly promoted to the office of Petition moDger Extraordinary to the Nelson Provincial Government, moving covertly " where busy men most do congregate," and jealously ' guarding a mysterious document, to which ' he craves signatures, but the contents of which are kept a profound secret from all, or any, having aught to do or say in favor J of the Separation Petition, already circu- J . lating throughout the district. Thus the ; plot thickens, and events hurry on to action, while the people of the Buller district ' have but themselves to depend on. Therß ( is a suspicion— nay more— of traitors ia j the camp, and council ; and it behoves us all to watch them warily.
