The Post of Friday last says:— Rather unexpectedly, the Premier, this afternoon made a long statement as to the reasons which caused the Government not to introduce an Epucation ßill this session. These reasons may be summed upas follows: — 1. The diversity of opinion in tbe House and in the constituencies on every detail connected with the question. 2. The increased attention given to the subject in the provinces. 3. The bitter discussion which has ensued on religious grounds. » We are glad to hear that satisfactory arrangements have been come to between Mr Brpgden and those of his navvies who were inclined to be obstreperous when they were here. All the men have agreed at Picton to work 53 hours a week, being nine hours a day for five days, ahd eight hours oh Saturday. The remuneration is fixed" at 6s per day for first- class men, and 5s for those who are inferior..
