Will"" '■■■ * " ' ' ' '■'"—■'■ '■"■■— »'»mim mi HUM ill Perseverance Mine. — The Lady Barkly arrived from Collingwood and Motueka this afternoon, bringing with her the gold produced by the late crushing at the Perseverance mine. The yield, we are sorry to say, is again very small, being only 84ozs from 209 tons. Oddfellows' Hall. — A second miscellaneous amateur entertainment was given at the Oddfellows' Hall last night which passed off quite as successfully as tbat of the previous evening, but, unfortunately for the promoters, the audience was again very limited in numbers. Customs Revenue. — The following is a statement of the amount of Customs revenue collected at the Port of Nelson during the quarter endiog June 30, 1872: —Spirits, £2292 12s. 6d. ; Tobacco, £1.081 55. ; Fixed duties, £2635 6s; Duties by measurement, £2064 14s. 9d.; Duties by weight, £493 IGs. 5d.-, Gold duty, £433 4s. 10s.; Cigars, £128 3s. Bd. Total, £9129 3s. 2d. At Westport, the revenue under tbis head for the same period amounted to £7061 os. B_. The Smallpox. — A rumor was current in town this morning to the effect that the smallpox had been introduced into Nelson in the person of one of the Sisters of Mercy, who arrived in the Pbo.be, from Wellington on Thursday last. We are happy, on the authority of the Rev: Father Gar in, to be able to contradict the report, and we are specially re- ! quested to state that had such been the case, the parents of children attending St. Mary's Schools would at once have been informed of it. In Dunedin an episcopal residence for Bishop Neville is fast approaching completion. The Permissive Bill .fight has already commenced, Mr. Creighton having presented two petitions, signed by over 3000 persons, on the subject.
