The news which we are to-ciay enabled to place before oar readers is, we presume, the first that has been forwarded by the traus-continental lelegraph, as in no other way are we able to account for the astonishing fact that we now possess information of what tvas takiug place iu London last Saturday fortnight. The telegrams are, as will be seen, of more than ordinary interest. Auckland, July 11. The Alexandra has arrived from Sjduey with Engli-h news to June 22ad. Java papers from June BtU to 14th say that England and America had nearly been declaring war. Tbo opposition given by America in tbe settlement of the Alabama question was so unsatisfactory that England eakl she washed her Lands of the whole matter. America then spoke about war, hut England saidfihe was prepared for that also. Later dales to July 14, state that the Lords warmly debated Earl Russell's motion to suspend arbitration till the claims were withdrawn. Lord Derby and others supported Eatl Russell. Earl Ripon accused the Conservatives of assuming an unpatriotic attitude. America has proposed a winter commission to arrange a treaty for defining rights of neutrals. Grant has been re-nominated President, and at present difficulties are existing with Americans themselves against the formal withdrawal of the Alabama claims, but decided not to verge (?) them at present. Several speakers in the House of Commons persisted in at once having the question settled one way or the other.
