The Anchor Line Company's steamer Kennedy arrived here on Sunday morning, at 7 o'clock.' She left Nelson at 2.30 p.m. on Monday the 10th inst., and at 6.30 p.m. brought up for shelter at Totaranui, blowing a gale from S.S.W., and barometer down to 28.50. Tuesday morning; at 7 a.m. got under weigh, weather looking- better. At 10 a.m. brought up under Bush End, the wind again increasing. On Wednesday the wind again increased to a gale attended with heavy hail and rain squalls. Hove up the anchor at 1 1 , and ran back to Totaranui for shelter. The weather continued the same until Friday night at 9 o'clock, when the wind shifted suddenly. Got under weigh at once, and proceeded on the voyage to Westport. Arrived there at 4 p.m. on Saturday, landed cargo and left on Monday evening at 6 o'clock for Hokitika, arriving there the following morning at 7 o'clock. Left Hokitika at 7.30 a.m. on Thursday, for the Grey, weather fine, arriving at that port at 10 a.m. the same day; landed and took in cargo and 76 tons coal, and left at 10 p.m., arriving at Westport at 7 a.m. on Friday, landed 6000 feet timber, and a large quantity of cargo on the beach, and at 10 p.m. had to proceed to sea for safety, owing to the want of proper wharfage accommodation and heavy fresh in the river.
