The liberal Republican convention has nominated Horace Greely for the Presidency. The nomination took the country by surprise. Grant will no doubt get the regular nomination from the Republicans. Davis has been nominated. It is believed (hat that the contest will be between Grant :md Greely. To-day a severe wind storm passed over Washington and New York, destroying the foliage of the parks and orchards and damaging houses and barns. The Spanish gunboat has captured, under very suspicious circumstances, the English schooner William Julius, and brought her to Neuriteaß. The President has signed the amnesty passed by tbe Senate. The exceptions provided for in the Bill will, it is supposed, cover less than 200 cases, including Jeff Davis. The Senate went into executive session on May 22 on an additional article of the Treaty of Washington with modifications proposed by a majority of tbe Committee on foreign regulations to effect the original object by a change of phraseology, but to make it of equal application to both sides. A fire at Broadway destroyed 800,000 dollars' worth of dry goods. There has been an attack by Cherokee Indians near Fort Smith, 13 were killed and 12 wounded. The whole district is deserted in consequence. Property to the extent of one million dollars has been destroyed by fire at Somerset, Pennsylvania. Ten thousand immigrants arrived at New York on May 21.
