WESLEYAN CHURCH ANNIVERSARY.
A tea and public meeting was held at the Wesleyau Church, yesterday evening, in celebration of the anniversary of the Nelson branch of the Church. The chair •was taken by the Rev. W. J. Watkin, who delivered an earnest and impressive address to those present, as also did tho Revs. W. Canuell and D. Dolamore, and Mr. Harvey. The success of the meeting was very largely contributed to by the excellent rendering of several anthems by the choir. The folio-wing report was read by the chairman : — " Not quite twelve months have elapsed since our last chapel anniversary ; Captain Peek was then with us, and rendered us good service. In the interval a material improvement has taken place in the circumstances of this place of worship. The old disreputable fence which called forth so much remark has disappeared, and in its place a neat iron fence has been set up. This was rather a costly undertaking, but the trustees and church-officers thought it would be the most economical and ornamental bulwark. It stands secure, and will for generations, if nothing unusual occur; and they who succeed us will have cause to bless our determination. All the cost of the fence has not been met, but a few arrears have to be brought up. Another improvement will have presented itself to all who visit this sanctuary, and that is the neatness and order of the approaches to its doors ; the money spent in this way has been well expended. "In the conduct of religious worship the same deceocy and order have been observed a<3 of old. There have been punctuality and regularity. Various anniversaries have been celebrated within these walls, that of the Sabbath School having bepn the most productive of pleasure and profit. Our missionary services were fairly attended end a spirit of liberality was manifested by the congregation. " We have had besides our own staff of workmen, Messrs. Richardson and Warren of our own communion, to help us, Messrs. Calder and Dolamore, ministers in this city, and one sermon from Mr. Parkin, a minister of the United Free Methodist Church, who was on his way to the West Coast. We cherish a feeling of goodwill toward other sections of Christ's Church, and say peace be with all them who love our Lord Jesus Christ. "We have not seen signs and wonders wrought in our midst by the power of the Holy Ghost, but his power and presence have been felt in the sanctuary, and we believe that good; and honest hearts have received the seed of the kingdom which has been sown morning and evening of the Sabbath days of the past year. Some of our members have been . called away to' the church triumphant. In conclusion we ascribe-all wisdom and honor and praise to "Him 'waft!
