The Provincial Government of Taranaki has offered a reward of £1000 for the discovery of a payable goldfield in the Province, The Grammar School of Auckland, in connection with the Central Board of Education, proposes to offer five exhibitions of £30 a year each. The Sittings of the Court under the "Divorce and Matrimonial Clauses Act," were to commence at Wellington on Wednesday last. News. — The folio wins; telegram appeared in the Lyttelton Times of Monday last : — " The Dun Mountain Company's property id railway plant, including the tramway from Nelson to Port, sold for £74,750." — No doubt the Dun Mountain. Company will be very glad to hear it. The will of the late Mr. Thomas Austin, of Barwon Park wa3 proved in the Supreme Court on April 25. The property is sworn under £178,000. The Meat Preserving Works, at Winton, Southland, have now been in operation for something like six weeks, during which time they have disposed of over 12,000 sheep. Referring to the progress of this industry, the Invercargill Times says :— We understand that the barque Mendoza, now in Port Chalmers, has been chartered by the New Zealand Meat Preserving Company, and may shortly be expected at Bluff, to load for London. She will take away about 800 tons of the company's products.
