Nelson Evening Mail SATURDAY, MAY 25, 1872.

Parliament is announced to meet for the despatch of business on Tuesday the 16th July. Telegraphic. — The telegraphic line between Nelson and Motueka is so nearly completed, that communication between these places will be open about the middle of next week. Christ Church. — We are requested io state that the Bishop of Nelson will preach in Christ Church to-morrow evening, when the subject of his sermon will be "The abolition of capital puishment." Mr. Hoskins and Miss Colville, who are nightly delighting crowded audiences at Wellington, are shortly expected in Nelson, where, we have no doubt, they will be as highly appreciated as in the other provinces they have visited. Wesleyan Church Anniversary. — The anniversary of this church will be celebrated to-morrow, when sermons will be preached in aid of the Church Trust, by the Key. D. Dolamore in the morning and the Rev. W. Cannell in the evening. The customary tea and public meeting will be held on the following Tuesday. Queen's Birthday. — The weather yesterday was lovely, and full advantage was taken of it by pleasure parties who were to be seen iv all directions in the outskirts of the town. The childrent's treat got up by Mr. Crisp proved a great success, and was brought to a close by a public meeting at the Temperance Hall, when the chair was taken by Mr. Saunders, who delivered a short address ou the advantages of teetofalißm. A number of scngs and concerted pieces were sung by Mr. Walcot and several volunteers who gave their assistance, Mrs. Palmer kindly giving her services at the piano. There were also some well delivered recitations by tbe children, and an exhibition of the Magic Lantern, of which the juveniles never grow weary, brought the proceedings to a termination.
