Hokitika, May 17. The Alhambra left Melbourne on the 11th inst., and arrived at Hokitika at 10 o'clock this morning. She brings 200 tons of cargo for all ports and 21 passengers. May 11. — The debate on the reply to the Governor's speech on the opening - of Parliament still continues. Charges of abuse of patronage, added to the omission of all mention of educational measures in the speech, form the grounds of complaint against tbe Ministry. The arrangement between Mr. Duffy and Mr. Yogel with reference to the postal service via New Zealand are strongly condemned by the press as unfavorable and unfair, on account of Victoria not being the terminus. A special charge will probably be brought forward in Parliament. Mr. Ingles has appeared before the Presbyterian Church Assembly and pleaded guilty to the charge of plagiarism brought against him and expressed contrition. He was publicly rebuked from the Moderator's chair, and several of the members were in favor of suspending him for three months. A Permissive Bill has been introduced into Parliament. There have been sales of Tookey's, but prices are withheld; they are offered at £6 15s. The breadstuff, market is unaltered, but it is believed will" be less firm shortly. Feeding grain is quiet, and not in great demand. Arrived : Hero and Ceres, from New Zealand. Sailed : Kate Con ley, and Gleaner, for Greymouth ; Prosperity, for Hokitika. SYDNEY. The ship Alice Cameron, bound for China, was dismasted off tbe coast of Queensland, and returned to port under jury masts. Four miners who were in a. boat at Newcastle were blown out to Bea ; three of them were picked up, but the fourth was drowned. Two sailors quarrelling at Newcastle went out to fight, when one stabbed the other fatally. McEvoy, the paymaster of H. M. S. Blanche, has died of epilepsy. !; , ADELAIDE. paper proprietor, and members of Parliament, are alleged to have forfeited their seats by accepting Government contracts for advertising. The issue will probably be tested hy a friendly suit. Arrived : City of Dublin from London. Everett, one of the sailors, killed Griffith, another seaman, on the voyage, and has been committed for trial.
