The Nelson Evening Mail SATURDAY, MAY 11, 1872.

The Ocean Bird. — The cargo of this schooner, consisting of oats, malt, bran, &c, was sold at auction this morning by Mr. John R. Mabiu, and averaged about sixpence per bag. Provincial Council. — The Council was engaged the whole of yesterday in discussing the Highways and Town Improvements Bills, loth of which have now passed through Committee. Christ Church. — The Rev. T. L. Tudor, who is about to take charge of a parish in Wellington, after having been connected with what is now the diocese of Nelson for considerably over twenty years, will preach in Christ Church to-morrow morning. The service will be intoned by the Bishop of Nelson who will preach in the evening. Oddfellows' Hall. — Messrs. Bromley and O'Brien, who received very effective assistance from some of our Nelson amateurs, gave a very successful and amusing entertainment to a crowded audience last night. The comic singing of Mr. Bromley called forth peals of laughter, and as for " Salamander Sam," it was with difficulty that the audience could bring themselves to allow him to leave the stage. The whole performance passed off most satisfactorily, and Mr. Bromley, whose benefit night it was, can have no reason to complain of the results.
