The object of the company is to procure and maintain a fleet of first-class steamers, to be employed in the trade between the several Australian Colonies and New Zealand, and in such other branches of trade as may be considered advisable. In the first instance, it is proposed to purchase -x the undermentioned well-known vessels, now the property of Messrs. McMeckan & Blackwood. The price at which the Steamships' Premises and Good Will of the Business are offered to the Company is £165,000, which includes all the spare gear, sails, yards, shafts, propellers, machinery, &c, whether on board or ashore, and all stores and coals aboard when ships are taken over. There will be no Promoters' Shares, and Messrs. McMeckan & Blackwood pay preliminary expenses. Messrs. McMeckan & Blackwood are willing to take £50,000 in shares, or such other amount as the Provisional Directors may determine on. That the undertaking will be eminently profitable, may be gathered from the fact that the net earnings of eight of the vessels for the year 1871 was £34,7-13 (the Albion did not lommence running until December), showing a eturn of upwards of 15 per cent, per annum.
