MELBOURNE.
April 18.— The first section of the North Eastern Railway consisting of 64 miles has been opened. Banquets have been given to Seymour, and . Kilmore, the latter was attended by the Ministry. Ministerial banquets are to beheld at Maryborough, and Carisbrook, to-day. It is proposed to form a South Pacific Steam Navigation Company with a capital of £200,000 to buy up the nine boats belonging to M'Meckan and Blackwood, who propose to retain an interest in the Company to the amount of £50,000. Feeney has been convicted of the murder of Marks by shooting him in the Fitzroy Gardens, and sentenced to death. He received his sentence perfectly unmoved, as, indeed, he was throughout the whole trial. The sentence will in all probability be carried out in spite of the attempt to show insanity. Aebivjsd : Albion. Sailed : Emulous, for Dunedin. Flour, £14108. to £ 15. Wheat, 6s. 7d. Three samples of New Zealand oats, ex Rangitoto, were offered for sale, but only 3s. 2 Jd. was offered, at which price they were withdrawn. Victorian oats of average quality 2s. 6d., to 3s. Tookey's are held for £7, buyers offer £5.
