To the Editor of the Nelson Evening Mail. Sir, — I observe the Examiner this morning, in a leading article upon the subject of the coming vacancy, refers to a requisition left at my office signed by a few gentlemen as to my intention of resigning my seat and observes that I treated the gentlemen contemptuously. So far from this being the case, I personally waited on several of the rcquisitionists and told them I had announced my int-ntions regarding the seat as definitely as I possibly could through the press, and elicited from them that the information was quite sufficient. The JZxaminer referring, as I thought, to the subject, said " nothing more was required on my part." I was very unwell lor some time or I would have waited on each of the gentlemen personally, who have expressed so much anxiety. I trust the above explanation will remove from the minds of any person any feeling on my part of contemptuous treatment of my fel'ow citizens. I am, &c, M. LIGHTBAND
